...rental company charges $15 p? What is the answer to this?

Suppose that Ace car rental company charges $30 plus $0.20 per mile; and Bell car rental company charges $15 plus $0.30 per mile. Write an equation for finding the mileage x for which the two companies charge the same amount.

Ace car rental:

cost = .20 m + $30

Bell car rental

cost = .30 m + 15

If the costs are to be the same, then clearly, they must be equal; so:

.20m + 30 = .30m + 15

always,
tony
