I just got the iPhone 5 with Verizon on friday with a 2GB data allowance per month plan. If I send and receive picture messages, do they count towards my 2GB or are texts and picture messages counted separately from my data pool?

It is counted as its own class. Called MMS. Also you WILL get charged extra if it is not in your contract.
