What is an interesting topic or historical event not many people know about?

I have an english project, where I give a speech in front of the class with a powerpoint. Does anyone know of any not commonly known historical events that are fascinating and could keep high-schoolers interested?
could also be modern day inventions, technology, ANYTHING interesting and not commonly known.
