Can handheld metal detectors damage netbooks?

I passed though a metal detector yesterday with my netbook inside my backpack. This morning, my netbook won't boot. It can't passed though windows and it keeps restarting. Can a metal detector cause such problem? Thanks

Every time before I enter into the railway station, my notebook is examined by the handheld metal detector, but now it still works very will and have no problem. Perhaps it is other problems, you may have your notebook checked.
