There was an ant colony that thrived
Like few others had done before
It expanded and prospered so greatly
Because every creature gladly lent its claw,

Every morning they crawled to work
For a day of hard work and toil
Some hunting and gathering food
Others digging around in the soil,

Then one day a an ant named Horace
Returned in a violent mess
He collapsed in front of his friends
And lay looking ill and lifeless,

Horace had fought for the colony
Fighting of giant beetles and more
So the colony agreed without question
That he would be greatly cared for,

Horace was told he should rest
Until they discovered a cure
Just take it easy, be sure to eat well
And youll feel better soon we are sure,

Now another ant Finbar noticed this
and jealousy in him did stir
until a pain in his leg made him realise
he too would need looking after,

Finbar explained he could no longer walk
And with tears in his eyes he did plea
Ill surely perish if left without aid
Do none of you feel empathy,

So the next day when the ants went to work
Finbar instead sat and watched butterflies
And listened to the singing of the birds
What happened next what of little surprise,

Soon less and less ants felt like working
Instead lazed around in the sun
This of course attracted the red ants
And the colony fed everyone,

This soon put a strain on the colony
And its greatness began to regress
But no one complained for fear they might seem
Intolerant to laziness,

Soon the colony was in great peril
There was not enough food to go around
They approached the queen with their problem
She said i know where help can be found,

The next day as the worker ants headed of
And the others lay around the place
Finbar woke from his nap to an eight eyed monster
Towering over him drooling onto his face,

The ants dashed in all directions
Desperately wishing that they could leave
Finbars five good legs carried him fastest of all
straight into the spiders white weave,

When the ants returned from there work
They found all there brethren slain
They mourned the great loss and soon
The colony flourished again.
