NO joke...my friend wrote in her GCSE exam that the animals might get cold if they built them in land.

Birds hit the turbines and die, and they can be noisy. If they are in water, you can have a wave turbine attached underneath it. The coast near Lake Michigan in Michigan gets a lot of wind on the lake.

The UK has one of the best climates in the world for wind farms but because of all the red tape in the way of setting one up here we have very few in proportion to how much land we have (compared to Europe) and despite the governments drive towards green energy we no longer build wind turbines here.

Wind turbine's blades are designed like aircraft wings instead of ceiling fans to allow wind to do maximum work.

One interesting thing to look at is how wind farms have impacted wildlife, and what they have done to change designs so these impacts aren't as bad. Many birds and bats collide with the arms, and some bats experience a pressure change when flying near the moving arm that is enough to kill them even if they don't actually hit the arm. Many birds migrate at night and collisions happen frequently enough to cause concern.

Now wind farms are usually placed in areas out of the way of major migration routes.
