why wont cd/dvd rw play cds, but not dvds?

I just changed my cd/dvd drive because last one wasn't working. This is new and plays cds fine, but when I put in a dvd-r disk it won't read it at all.
ps: it says on the front cdrw and dvd+rewritable, but plays no dvds what so ever.

Could be drivers...

Could be other issues...

Need more info....

Also, DVD R+ and R- could be an issue

Its most likely the format of the DVD.
DVD +R DVD-R

Check your CD drive that you bought. Make sure it has + and - sign. If it only has, say it says CD/DVD-R\RW then you can only play DVD-R\RW same with CD/DVD+R/RW can only use DVD+R.

most likely its not a dvd drive, read the box if it says cd burner or something like that it wont read dvds
