Why do sour patch kids hurt my tongue after I eat so many?

I've been eating these for years, and I have no idea why. I know they're sour and all, but what's the concept behind the searing pain that follows these delicious children?
I must remind you all that I am a man.

I think it's the fact that the sugar crystals on them are tough like sandpaper and rub away at your tongue. Add that to the fact that they are SOUR and BURN your chafed tongue!

The candy is rough on your sensitive tounge and then, like said before, the sourness, and the partial salt, burn your tounge. And, unfortunately, an underground sour patch gang would not be very successful.

They contain A LOT of acid too. The sour flavor is actually made by tartaric acid. It also contains citric acid. Combine that with the hard granules and a lot will leave you in pain

I was just eating some today :/ they hurt so good
