How much does patriarchal religion effect how we classify people of mixed ethnicity?

We get half our nuclear DNA from each parent. *All* of our mitochondrial DNA comes from our mother. The only mitochondria in the sperm are in the tail, which is broken off when the sperm enters the egg.

So why, for instance, are Obama, who has a white mother, and Tiger Woods, who has an Asian mother, considered black? Less than half their DNA comes from the black parent. How much is this influenced by patriarchy, and "God the Father" religions?
I don't give thumbs down.
Grammar police, a sure sign someone has no actual answer.

But, what about the offspring of white fathers and black mothers?

It's all about labels we apply to ourselves.

I'd imagine that in Obama's case, perhaps a bit of the old 'one drop' rule. More than that, though, is the fact that he looks black and therefore grew up black in our overly race-conscious society.
