Can you use any rogers phone for pay as you go?

I use to be on a contract with my rogers cell phone. But when I had bought the phone to use, inside the box there was an extra unopened SIM card. Now I realise I don't want to be on a contract again, would I be able to use that card and make the phone pay as you go rogers? Instead of just buying one of their dubbed pay as you go phones?

Also is there a way to get unlimited messaging on pay as you go rogers? I read somewhere unlimited messaging for rogers was just released.
