That they're going to make the thumb thing visible like when someone gives a star so you can see who has given a thumb up or down

You made it up ;)

It would take up too much space - especially when you've got tens or even hundreds of people who have given thumbs up/down on one answer alone (which does happen).
Plus it would take too long to load the page.

It would cause wayyy too many arguments when it came to thumbing people down... when you star a question it is a completely positive thing so it is ok to show people's avatars and pictures.

I will eat my hat if yahoo does that.
