Did you ever figure out how to recover your contacts?? I just accidentally hit overwrite when i was copying them to my sim card and they are GONE!!! :(
Did you save them to your Google account, or did you save your contacts directly to your phone? You can restore them by syncing to your Google account, but if they were saved to your phone and you reset, rooted, or switched phones you're out of luck.
