Will a CD R work in my car stereo?

ive been having trouble burning a cd/dvd for my car stereo. i switched my mp3 to wav but it still isn't working. it says compact disc recordable on the stereo. i tried dvd r but that isn't working. will a cd r work?

please help! i've already wasted 3 dvds

Cds are kinda like etcha sketches (stay with me) you can draw data on to them and cdrs do this freely allowing the user to manipulate the drawing at will, like a flash drive. When you burn music to a cd it essentially locks the "drawing" turning your data storage into a music cd allowing your car stereo to understand the data because its not a computer its a cd player

DVDs play movies...NOT music...
CD-R is what you need to play music... That will work! Goodluck!
