Where should I take my 9 year old son on vacation?

I want to take my son on vacation before he goes to school August 18th, so within the next two to three weeks. Where should we go... all suggestions would be appreciated (i.e., if Hawaii, which island, if Florida, where to stay, etc.).
We live in Nor Cal. and I would like to go for 5 to 7 days.
