What kind of Civic or Corolla can I get with $10,000?

I'm more interested in the Corolla. I don't know, I've always loved their steering wheel. I'm seeing 2006 or 2007 Corolla's within this price range. They have high miles for the year(87k miles range) but I heard with proper maintenance, Honda and Toyota can last 200,000 miles easily. Should I go for it or no? I also want the most fuel efficient one(do not suggest Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit, they are too small for me and Yaris really scares me because of it's size). I know they started putting bigger engines in recent years. Which year would you suggest for this price range? Civic or Corolla, both would work but I like Corolla better.
