The Second Ashes Test descended into further controversy on the final morning as Jonny Bairstow was run-out to leave England’s hopes of victory reliant on another Ben Stokes miracle. Bairstow was dismissed for 10 having ducked under a bouncer from Cameron Green and then wandered out of his crease, seemingly assuming the ball had already gone dead. The incident prompted boos from much of the Lord’s crowd, Bairstow’s departure leaving England six wickets down and still 178 runs shy of what would be their highest ever Ashes chase, 371 their target to level the series.
