Green recorded his first career hat trick as the Red Wings downed the Ottawa Senators 5-1 in the final home opener at Joe Louis Arena. Darren Helm scored the other two goals for Detroit and Thomas Vanek picked up three assists.
Mike Green is the first #RedWings defenseman with a hat trick since Nicklas Lidstrom on Dec. 15, 2010 vs. St. Louis.

No. 2 Star: Gabriel Landeskog, Colorado Avalanche
The Avs captain was the hero of the night after he batted a puck out of mid-air past Marc-Andre Fleury to give Colorado a 4-3 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The goal was Landeskog’s second of the night, with his first coming midway through the third period to tie the game.

No. 3 Star: Brent Burns, San Jose Sharks
Burns scored twice in the third period as the Sharks attempted to come back on the New York Rangers. They failed, losing 7-4, but Burns would finish with three points and Sharks captain Joe Pavelski would end the night with a goal and three helpers.
Honorable Mention: Jarome Iginla scored his 612th career goal. He’s second among active players behind Jaromir Jagr … Chris Kreider had a goal and an assist for the third straight game. Per Elias, he’s the first Rangers player to begin a season with three straight multi point games since Bernie Nicholls in 1990 … Jimmy Vesey scored his first NHL goal in the Rangers win:

Brandon Carlo’s first NHL goal sealed the deal for the Boston Bruins as they beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-1. Dominic Moore scored his first as a Bruins and David Pastrnak snapped the 1-1 tie late in the second period. Tuukka Rask made 32 stops. Rask also led the Bruins in points on the night with two assists*… During the first TV timeout the Red Wings honored the late Gordie Howe:
