2001 Hyundai Accent makes unusual noise when clutch engaged?

I recently purchased a 2001 Hyundai Accent, so I am not familiar with the specifics of the car yet. When I put my foot on the clutch, even if I just put a little tiny bit of pressure, it makes a sound like reminds me of high pressured air blowing, or light grinding. I can't describe it perfectly, but those are pretty close comparisons. The noise stops when the clutch is pushed all the way down to the floor. Is this normal? Or should I have it checked out?
