shortening

I'm triyng to make chocolate according to this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7SQVYqYE64 But He says I need some Vegetable shortening. Can I use vegetable oil? Or Extra virgin olive oil? I'm pretty sure butter wont taste too good. :P
