The RPR is a first line test for syphillis. If it is + as yours was, the FTA-ABS is ordered.
The RPR is fast & inexpensive. But not as accurate.
The FTA-ABS is slower & more expensive (and more accurate).
The ONLY thing know for sure is that your liver is having problems. Your doc needs to dig into the possible causes, from cirrhosis to hepatitis.
