Yes it could help you with self defense as long as you realize that in a self defense situation there would be no rules whereas in an MMA match or class there are rules. But it certainly wouldn't hurt you in a self defense situation.

my tip is find a new school because unless your like a prodegy your school sucks because it should take you closer to 5 years to get any worthwile blackbelt.
