What year Sportster? And which carb is on it?
Are you using the choke (or enrichener)?
I'm gonna guess that the bike has been sitting for a while and this is the first time you've tried to start it?
It sounds like the carb has a plugged jet. When you put your hand over the carb it increases...
Yeah, it could have been a cheap clutch cable...
Barnett is the way to go for clutch cables.
Also make sure the primary isn't over-filled, and blow some compressed air through the vent to make sure the primary chaincase is venting and not building up pressure.

I don't care what you drive .. if I looked out the window and saw that it was YOU I'd call the police and have you charged with criminal trespassing. (I'm sure they've already told you to stay away.)
Ya know...
I've been riding a long time and I've ridden all kinds of differen't bikes.
With the exception of some good natured joking between friends Yahoo Answers is the only place I've seen this nonsense.

"It runs like a champ once I jump start it"
Apparently you were told wrong lol
CDI is Capacitive Discharge Ignition. Basically it uses a charge stored in high voltage capacitors to fire the spark plugs as...

I like Barnett cables too - you can't order directly from Barnett anymore. Most bike shops can order them for you though.
Drag Specialties and J&P will have the extended wiring.
I think Gizzard is right:

They're behind the fan screen so they would be near the flywheel.
