Thread: Would an Iphone or a Droid work in India without AT&T or Verizon ?

Hey guys ! So i am planning on giving my cousin who lives in india an iphone or a droid for his birthday. I am just gonna buy The celphone without a deal , I think it will cost me about 0. My question is would the iphone or droid work there without AT&T or Verizon. Can my cousin get a deal from one of the networks in India , or does it have to be with AT&T or Verizon? The phone will only have service from the place you buy it from. If you get a phone from Verizon then it will have to have a Verizon plan. Same goes for AT&T an all the phone CO. You could always call the phone store an ask them an see if they have Verizon or another co. out there. All I know is I tried to bring a phone I already had from another phone company an they said they could not put there service on it . I had to buy one of their phones if I wanted Verizon even though the service from the other co. was turned off. I have a friend who lives in Nebraska an he has a cell phone from there with a Nebraska phone #. He has had the phone for a few yrs. now. He moved to Puerto Rico an he kept the same phone an service from when he was in Nebraska. He just keeps paying his bill an there is no problems or anything. As long as you pay your bill I don't think they care.
