How can I read my verizon.net mail from my yahoo account? ?

Because of other users of the verizon account, it is set to verizon aol. I added the account and yahoo lets me send as from verizon but when I try to receive it says "There was a problem!
POP3 unexpectedly terminated the connection." Help.
