Three men decide to split the cost of a hotel room.

The hotel manager gave them the price of $30.00.

The men split the bill evenly, each paying $10.00, and went to their room.

However, the hotel manager suddenly realized that it was a Wednesday which meant that the hotel had a special: All rooms only $25.00.

Realizing that he had overcharged the men $5.00, the manager calls the bellboy, gives him five $1.00 bills and sends him up to the men's room.

After the bellboy explains the situation, the three men are extremely pleased at the hotel's honesty. So they allowed the bellboy to keep two of the $1.00 bills as a tip and split the rest between themselves.

So therefore, each man paid $9.00 (their original $10.00 minus the $1.00 return), totalling $27.00 plus $2.00 as a tip for the bellboy, for a grand total of $29.00

Its just bad math on the riddle's part to screw us up.

How the hell can that be?

The riddle says the manager sent the bellboy with five dollars and kept the charged $25.00. Therefore, each of the men got a dollar back and the bellboy kept two bucks totaling five dollars.

My conclusion is the extra dollar was either split as evenly as possible by the three men, or someone paid extra for their cheapskate friends.

the 2 dollars are included in the 27 so theres no reason to add it and make 29.

they paid 25 for the hotel room (25)
2 for the tip (27)
and then and then each got one dollar back (30)

actually, there is something in this riddle that looks fooling. in the statement:"All rooms only $25.00." and they said, "totalling $27.00". since there are three men, there are three $1.00 that should be returned, there should be $3.00 additional to the total, it would be $28.00 instead of $27.00. seems wrong?? think of this, they actually didn't pay $9.00 each, cause 9(3)= 27 and 27 minus 3(for the retur payments) is equal to 24, which is not equal to 25, which is the cost of the hotel per room, where does the fallacy occur?? there are three men, and there is a $5.00 change, can you divide 5 by three?? no, so 9 is not their real contribution in the hotel payment, it should be 9.33. the trick is with the numbers.
