Infants/Toddlers being prescribed anti-depressants?

I'm in the process of writing an undergraduate thesis on the prescription of anti-depressants (side-effects, the FDA, how the pharmaceutical companies are only out to make $). Anyways I just came across an article that says the FDA did a survey in 1998 that found 3,000 prescriptions for Prozac had been written for infants. Why in the world would infants be prescribed an anti-depressant? I've tried looking up some info on it, but only came across information regarding mothers being on anti-d's while pregnant and it affecting the child when born. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I would say "no" not for depression in infants. A lot of parents are against prozac in teens. Maybe you could look up all the uses for prozac on a site like webmd and see if there is another condition that requires the use of prozac. Also, I would check the sources quoted in the articles but I think if it were true...it really would have been in the news a great deal more.

See the 60 minute coverage on the death of a toddler given psych medicines. The way it is set up is totally for marketing of the drug. In the 60 minutes interview with a Harvard professor the professor describes their work that labels normal toddler behaviour as severe mental illness as Harvard's "contrabution".What it is, is that the drug companies and corporate interests in mental health services pour money into the universities throughout the United States that allows doctors to prescribe these medicines, and if a death occurs, well its 'currently accepted therapy', since journal articles accept it.Notice a drift in thinking if you can get ahold of older pharmacology texts, say a 1970's Goodman and Gillman where antidepressants are only for biochemical imbalances, not situational depression. There are plenty of people with bad situations that need actually meaningful changes in their lives, not chemicals. In the bible it is called sorcery, the use of science or medicine for evil purposes.
