20 people are sitting in a circle. there is a hat in the middle containing 40 red dots and 40 white dots. a person randomly takes a dot out of the hat and puts it on each persons forehead. you can see everyone else's dot color, but you cannot see your own. you are given only 1 question to ask the others in order to find out the color of your own dot. what question should you ask? It cannot be a question that directly relates to you. (ex: is my dot the same color as hers or what color is my dot?

Can you point to it and say "what color is this?" It doesn't relate to YOU, just the dot?

Ask the person, "How many red dots are in the hat?"

Then you can add that to the number of red dots you see and know based on whether the sum is 39 (red) or 40 (white).

How many red dots do you see? If you ask each person, you will know by the number you see and so and so sees etc. You can do the math and figure out what you must be to add it up correctly.

ask if you can count the dots leftin the hat. if you can, count each colour including the dots onpeople heads. if you count 40 red dots, & only 39 white dots, then you can conclude that yours is white.
