Would you cancel the holiday?

Would you cancel the holiday?

My partner told his manager at work about 6 weeks ago that he had booked a holiday. His manager said "Don't tell me, I don't want to know about it". So he went and told his Dad (the owner of the business) and the chief financial controller (his brother). Now we're due to leave and his manager is saying "you never told me - I'd never say I don't want to know about it".

It's no secret that we were going away. I'm due to give birth in November and haven't been away for a couple of years now so I'm desperate to go (especially as this could be our last time away together for the next 20 years!).

Do we cancel or postpone the holiday to accommodate his idiot manager (this will cost us quite a bit as we're due to leave next week)? Or should he be a baby and say "this is my family's business and I can go away whenever I damn well please?!"

What do you think?
lol I know - but I'm just worried about the working environment later on - it could make things pretty difficult. There's 150 people being employed so it's not always easy to hide behind his Dad - if you know what I mean!

His dad owns the business? Just go on holiday. If the manager gives you grief get dad to sort him out!

Really, that's not fair so I would just go and tell him tough luck

Mangers can be idiots. I had booked holidays for my honeymoon with one manager a year in advance. By the time they came around I had a new manager and he said he couldn't find the paperwork and he couldn't give me the whole time I needed. I said ok and left the office planning to just resign and get a new job when I got back. He must have realised what I was planning and he made out that he went out of his way to get me the holidays. So, if the holiday means that much to you, you should do everything possible to get it. As you said, this is a one time opportunity as you would need to wait until your children are grown up to take another holiday like this. Also, I think it will do you a lot of good to have this holiday and be able to relax before this baby arrives. I think it is important for your partner too. So, even if your partner has to go over the managers head and go to the big bosses, he should. Also, the fact that the owner is his father should mean that he should be able to get them. I know you shouldn't mix personal life with business but that has already been done as he works in his fathers company. I know it is his word against the managers, and I don't know what the fathers relationship is like with either one, but I think your partner should do what he can to take this holiday with you. Life is short - you are never going to look back and say "I should have worked more" - you always think "I should have spent more time with my family".

I'd have his father confirm that the holiday was planned and to have the father(owner) advise the manager to set up a system to record planned days off ,so that this doesn't happen again. Your husband wouldn't be seen as acting like a baby as the manager is the one acting unprofessional.
