Is it safe and is it worth not going with no contract?
Like any other contract it is your commitment to Telus that you will use their service for whatever time is stipulated in the document. If you don't fulfill it then you owe them $20 times however many months are left, plus tax. Some people prefer to be month to month customers which means that you will pay full price for your phone and will probably not get any features for free, but you are free to leave at any time you choose. Contract customers get discounted phones and can negotiate no-cost features. I like 2-year contracts because it lets me get a new phone at a reasonable price when I re-sign and it builds tenure so you can get more free features.
