At&t/Cingular Billing question.....?

Ok, I have the 200/5$ a month text messaging plan. Well I want to add unlimited because I'm always going over my limit and I'm already over my limit this month.Well i was wanting to know If I add the feature will it charge me for the unlimited and the 200 msgs and overages. Or would it not take effect yet and not charge me, or would the overages and the $5 go away and fall under the unlimited plan.
