...really hard as I am very att- ached to him. He hasnt broken up with me- he said if he wanted to he would have by now. but he hasnt. he says he feels suffocated. i feel so sad

Declare some independence for yourself too girl!! you need your time away from him too.
I think he doesn't want to hurt your feelings by officially breaking up with you, but he already sorta isn't he? Find someone else.
