Unlocked Sidekick 2008 with T-Mobile sim?

I have the new Sidekick 2008, but no sidekick data plan. i dont want to buy it and i read that an unlocked sidekick can only be used as a phone and sending sms messages if unlocked with a different sim card (i.e. cingular of AT&T). But is that true if i have t-mobile. will i be able to use the full data features even if it is unlocked?
