I've applied to a top university in my country (New Zealand) to do a Bachelor of Design (Hons) degree. It is a four year course.
My question is:
What would be better if I want to travel?
- A major in Fashion Design
or
- A major in Visual Communication Design
I want to travel and live overseas for a few years.
I am thinking that I want to do the Fashion Design qualification more as I love fashion. I don't particularly want to make clothing for my career though, I would get the fashion major to work in such fields as marketing or buying. I was also looking into careers in fashion magazines or fashion journalism which both look like my sort of thing. Would I be able to get a job working in any of these fields overseas? Preferably Asia.
Or would it be easier to find a job overseas if I had a Visual Communication Design major. For this major I could work in graphic design (preferably not), web design, digital media or animation.
Which major would be better if I want to travel and work overseas? And what if I couldn't get a job in any of those fields, which major would be better if I wanted to teach overseas, or does it not matter?
