Why is it a fashion mistake if you wear navy blue with black?

Years ago I was told you don't wear navy blue with black, but for the life of me I have no idea why. I thought black went with everything! Just wondering where this came from and if most people follow this rule.

Typically those two colors are both very dark, some people tend to be color blind. Usually not a good match, since black does pair nice with most colors, pastels, brights but with dark navy, sometimes its so close in color, but you can also tell its off. Not right match.
Most people follow that rule, but now with fashion trends, mix & match..so I think its pretty much thrown out the window....not something should be rule of thumb. You're fine..FAshion police wont come get you.

I've never heard this one,but maybe it suggests that when you pick out this outfit, they think you meant to pick out just black, not navy blue and black, because navy blue could be easily mistaken for black.

What they're saying is that you're color blind if you wear those 2 colors together? That's my best shot.XD

Probably because black and navy are both neutral colors. I don't necessarily follow it because neutrals go with everything. Maybe they just wanted to see you in more color

Because it's ugly and it doesn't match.
