Greco Roman or Freestyle wrestling are both equally good for MMA.
They are only ones in present-day MMA that are classified under the general banner of, "wrestling."
It is a matter of opinion whether it is the best sport to get someone ready for MMA.
There are a lot of Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Sambo, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, etcetra fighters that would disagree wrestling is the best.
I would say that wrestling or brazillian jiu jitsu would be the two best for a base to start with. The strikers seem to have a harder time transitioning successfully in MMA. The grapplers tend to do really well even starting out. So, I think a grappling style is where you want to start.
You wouldn't go wrong with a good background in wrestling. There are many fighters that come from wrestling backgrounds and do well in MMA. So, it can teach you a lot of useful skills.
