how can i check my sprint plan?

my phone broke so my freinds mom gave me her brothers old phone so i could put my chip in it but his old phone still works and has a number in it. i wanted to see what kind of plan is on it so i went to sprint.com and typed in the number and the site said they could not find the number.(my freinds family is in mexico so i cannot contact them) any ideas on what is going on?
