We’re two weeks into the season and it’s fair to say we don’t know much more than we did when the season started.
But that should change this week.
As we get closer to full-time conference play, were starting to see some better matchups, including this week’s much anticipated game between Alabama and Texas A&M.
But before we get to that, let’s recap what happened a week ago:
This guy is making himself the Heisman favorite:

This team has yet to allow a point in its first two games (more this below):

And this team continues to rack up ridiculous offensive stats while no one is paying attention:

Game of the week:
No. 1 Alabama at No. 6 Texas A&M, 3:30 p.m. ET
College football fans have been waiting for this game since it was announced and it should be a good one. A&M, led by quarterback Johnny Manziel, was the only team to beat the Crimson Tide last season, so the defending national champs will want their revenge. They’ve had an extra week to prepare, which could be good and bad. The Crimson Tide didn’t exactly look like world beaters in their 31-10 win over Virginia Tech during the opening weekend, especially on offense. Two of their scores came on special teams and one was a defensive touchdown. The offense was rather pedestrian. Meanwhile, A&M’s offense looks better than it did a year ago, but defense has been without several starters in its first two games and has been gashed by opponents because of it. Alabama’s D looks stout as always, but you can’t count out Manziel, who could turn this game into an offensive track meet.
Game to watch:
No. 20 Wisconsin at Arizona State, 10:30 p.m. ET
Neither one of these defenses has allowed an opponent to score this season. Wisconsin has pitched shutouts against UMass (45-0) and Tennessee Tech (48-0) and Arizona State defeated Sacramento State 55-0 in its season opener last week. But this game will actually separate the pretenders from the defenders. Arizona State’s offense put up a bunch of points last season and looks like it’s picked up where it left off. Wisconsin wasn’t exactly awesome on offense last year, but new coach Gary Andersen has made the Badgers a little more potent in that area especially in the running game. Wisconsin has had three 100-yard rushers in each of their first two games and Arizona's rushing offense was pretty terrible a year ago. If you can keep your eyes open after a long day of mediocre games, this will be one to watch.

Vanderbilt at No. 13 South Carolina, 7 p.m. ET
This game was unexpectedly good a year ago as the Gamecocks squeaked out a 17-13 victory. South Carolina is clearly the better team here, but it is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Georgia while the Commodores earned some confidence with its win over Austin Peay last week after narrowly losing their SEC opener against Ole Miss the week before. Vanderbilt hasn’t won in the previous four meetings between these teams, but they’ve all been good, close games.

Don't waste your time with:
Tennessee at No. 2 Oregon, 3:30 p.m. ET
The Vols earned a little love last week by forcing seven Western Kentucky turnovers, but didn’t exactly dominate their Sun Belt foe. Fast-forward to this week and Tennessee rolls into the raucous environment of Autzen Stadium against a much more offensively proficient team. Oregon has outscored its opponents 125-13 and that includes a 59-10 win over a Virginia team that defeated BYU to start the season.

QB Teddy Bridgewater
Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is the leader for the Heisman Trophy, but few people have seen him play this season. And that's been unfortunate because he’s been spectacular through his first two games. He’s completed 76.6 percent of his passes for 752 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception. Saturday’s game against Kentucky will, unfortunately, be the best opponent Bridgewater will face so far this season and until the Cardinals meet Rutgers on Oct. 10.
Upset alert:
Ole Miss (+2.5) at Texas, 8 p.m. ET
It was a toss-up between this game and the USC-Boston College game because both of those favorites are in trouble right now. Ole Miss is coming into this game fired up because of the 66-31 drubbing a year ago. Offensively, Ole Miss is going to have to push the tempo and give running backs Jeff Scott and Barry Brunetti a lot of touches to test the Texas run defense. Texas is wounded and this is as good a time as any for Ole Miss to pounce.
