Maybe Stanford has an aversion to teams from Washington?
A week after No. 15 Stanford was pummeled at Washington, the Cardinal fared no better at home vs. Washington State. The Cougars beat Stanford 42-16.
The Cardinal played much of the second half without star running back Christian McCaffrey. According to a report from ESPN during the game, McCaffrey had a bag of ice on his right hip and also spent time in the locker room during the second half.
When McCaffrey was in the game, he wasn’t the effective all-purpose weapon we’re used to seeing as his streak of 19 consecutive games with 100 or more all-purpose yards ended. McCaffrey had eight carries for 35 yards, one catch for five yards and three kick returns for 43 yards.
And Stanford’s running game was ineffective, period. The Cardinal had 61 yards rushing on 26 carries; probably because the passing game once again wasn’t very effective. Keller Chryst took some snaps at QB in place of Ryan Burns in the fourth quarter, though Burns ended up finishing the game.

Washington State quarterback Luke Falk was 30-of-41 passing for 357 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Falk’s fourth touchdown of the night came as the Cougars extended the lead to 25 points in the fourth quarter on a great catch from wide receiver River Cracraft.
Washington State’s win means the only two teams undefeated within Pac-12 play are the Huskies and Cougars. We don’t blame you if you’re a bit confused by that. Washington has been great all season while WSU opened the season with losses to Eastern Washington and Boise State.
The Boise State loss is explainable; the Broncos are 6-0. But the EWU loss looks odder and odder. And perhaps it’s a good thing Stanford didn’t schedule the Eagles. The Cardinal could have three ugly losses.
