Welcome to The Walk Off, the nightly MLB recap from Big League Stew. Here we’ll look at the top performers of the night, show you a must-see highlight and rundown the scoreboard. First, we start with a game you need to know about.
Brian Dozier will not stop hitting home runs and now he’s taking down records in the process. Dozier launched a leadoff home run Tuesday night off Kansas City Royals starter Dillon Gee to make it five straight games with a homer, tying the Minnesota Twins’ record held by Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew and Marty Cordova.

His 39 homers on the season tie the mark for the most by an AL second baseman, set by Alfonso Soriano in 2002. The major-league record is 42, shared by Rogers Hornsby and Davey Johnson.
It’s the pace he’s on that’s especially absurd. Dozier’s hit 25 home runs since the All-Star break and 24 over his last 36 games. The always excellent Ryan Spaeder points out on Twitter that this stretch is almost Bondsian.

Brian Dozier (Getty Images) All these homers haven’t been nearly enough to keep the Twins from losing, though. They lost Monday’s game where he hit three and Tuesday the Royals exploded for seven runs in the ninth to win 10-3.
There’s not much else Dozier can do but keep on hitting those homers. We’ll see how long this streaks lasts and how many he has to his name when Minnesota’s season ends in about a month.
TOP PERFORMERS

Manny Machado: Machado had himself one monster night at the plate in the Baltimore Orioles’ 11-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The All-Star third baseman hit a grand slam and added two more hits, including an RBI single, for five RBIs in the game. The American League MVP race is going to be a tight one, but Machado is reminding everyone he absolutely belongs in that conversation with the other contenders.
Jonathan Villar: Villar was everywhere in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 12-4 win over the Chicago Cubs, collecting three hits, one of them a home run, from the leadoff spot and also had a stolen base. The Brewers are well below .500 but the 25-year-old Villar’s .297/.376/.453 line with 52 stolen bases does provide some*hope for the future.
Elvis Andrus:*Andrus’ four hits and a homer was*a big part of the Texas Rangers’ 10-7 win against the Seattle Mariners as he continues his bounceback offensive year. The Rangers’ shortstop’s .777 OPS would be a career-high as he’s helped them to their AL-best 83 wins.
MUST-SEE HIGHLIGHT

With one big swing of the bat Yadier Molina put four runs up on the scoreboard and put his St. Louis Cardinals in the National League record books. Molina’s first-inning grand slam made it 25 straight games for St. Louis with a home run, tying a NL record.

The Cardinals weren’t done with Molina’s blast, either. Tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-6, St. Louis hit three homers in the top of the ninth to give them five in the game on their way to a 9-7 win.
THE REST OF THE SCOREBOARD
Astros 4, Indians 3: Marwin Gonzalez had three hits, including a three-run home run in the second inning, to hand Corey Kluber the loss.
Phillies 4, Marlins 3: Giancarlo Stanton had a pinch-hit single as he made his surprising return to Miami’s lineup, but Philadelphia starter Adam Morgan pitched six innings of one-run ball and Tommy Joseph and Freddy Galvis drove in two runs apiece.
Nationals 9, Braves 7: Anthony Rendon mashed a grand slam and Daniel Murphy reached base four times to overshadow Dansby Swanson’s first career major-league home run.
Mets 5, Reds 3: Yoenis Cespedes hit the go-ahead home run in the seventh as New York stays one game out of the NL wild card game.

Yankees 7, Blue Jays 6: A wild game in the Bronx saw 10 runs come across in the last three innings and New York held on for the win despite Dellin Betances being pulled in the ninth.
White Sox 2, Tigers 0: Jose Abreu connected on a solo shot while Miguel Gonzalez kept Detroit from scoring over 6 1/3 innings.
Giants 3, Rockies 2: Jeff Samardzija struck out nine in seven innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk and Eduardo Nunez homered.
Athletics 3, Angels 2: It was the bottom of Oakland’s order that did all their damage on offense, as No. 8 hitter Ryon Healy had two hits with one RBI and No. 9 hitter Joey Wendle drove in the other two.
Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 2: Los Angeles jumped all over Arizona starter Shelby Miller, who lasted 4 1/3 innings giving up five runs – four earned – on 11 hits the night after Zack Greinke allowed five homers to his former team.
Red Sox 5, Padres 1: Jackie Bradley Jr. and Chris Young homered for Boston as the Red Sox are now back in a tie for first place in the AL East with Toronto.
