Any fan of baseball has, at one point in their life, owned baseball cards. In fact, many can probably remember their favorite card, or some dumb trade they made with their friends when they were younger. There was always excitement in unwrapping a package of cards and hoping to add to your collection.
For the first time ever, fans can have a say over that collection. Topps is allowing fans to vote for which player will be card No. 1 in next year's set. That's actually kind of neat.
The voting started on the Topps' website Wednesday, and will last until October 4. At that point, Topps will pare down the list to the final five. The final five voting will begin October 5, and extend until October. The company will announce the winner of the contest October 12. You can vote for your favorite player here.
You're probably asking yourself which players are in the running for this honor. Well, Topps currently has 34 options to choose from. You can also write in a candidate if your favorite choice is not currently an option.
We won't list all the nominees here, but Topps did a good job mixing up the choices. You can opt to vote for a young, up-and-coming superstar like Carlos Correa or Francisco Lindor, a legend like Albert Pujols or Ichico Suzuki or you can just go for one of the best current players in the game like Bryce Harper or Mike Trout.*
You can also vote for ... gasp ... Alex Rodriguez. We suspect that, despite his excellent comeback season, A-Rod probably won't get a lot of love in the end of season award voting. This could be his only chance to win an award this year, and you can make that a reality.*
Once you enter your vote, you cannot see the overall results, so there's no way to know which players are currently leading the pack. You'll have to remain in suspense until the final five are announced.

Maybe we're just being nostalgic, but we think this is a pretty cool idea. So, who do you think deserves to be No. 1?*
