It’s another edition of Deep Sleepers and DFS Bargains! Back just in time to help you snag a playoff berth. Last week I went 3-2, hitting on RB Alfred Blue, RB Buck Allen, and WR Dontrelle Inman. Unfortunately, QB Josh McCown exited Monday night’s contest with a collarbone injury, so he was removed from contention. TE Kyle Rudolph was, for the second week in a row, highly targeted by Teddy Bridgewater but didn’t score, which prevented him from finishing among the top twelve players at the position. I do, however, dig Rudolph’s matchup again this week and would advise starting him.
Here are the parameters heading into Week 13… all of the below players are owned in less than sixty percent of Yahoo leagues and/or are a significant value in our daily game. They’re not the obvious picks, and they’re not without their risks, but that’s why they’re so cheap and available! I’d never advocate taking all of these guys, but rather utilizing them if a manager were in a pinch at a position or aiming to build a “stars and scrubs” sort of DFS lineup. Have at it!

Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs ($29)
I know it’s not sexy, but the quarterback landscape has been uncharacteristically flukey in 2015. An ultra-conservative signal caller, Smith’s numbers rarely wow, but he doesn’t turn the ball over, and he’s been on quite a tear. A top-12 fantasy finisher in three of his last four games, Smith’s passing stats admittedly underwhelm, but his rushing numbers are sneaky good. In fact, since Week 8 he’s been second in rushing yards only to Cam Newton.
After winning five in a row, the Chiefs will travel to the Black Hole to take on their division rival. The return of Nate Allen and the benching of D.J. Hayden have definitely improved the Raiders secondary, but they’re far from a shutdown unit. In fact, they gave up three scores via the air to Marcus Mariota and the Titans' rag-tag group of receivers in Week 12. Two of those scores went to an RB and a TE. Understanding that Kansas City has excellent talent at both of those positions makes Smith’s matchup all the more tempting. He may not be a gunslinger, but he’s a fine stream this Sunday and has a favorable rest-of-season schedule if you’re looking for insurance at the position.
Kendall Wright, WR, Tennessee Titans ($15)
Despite a strong start to the season, Wright has largely been a fantasy disappointment. Missing three weeks due to an MCL sprain, the Baylor product returned in Week 12 and only managed 19 yards on two catches. He was, however, targeted seven times (second in team looks behind Delanie Walker and Harry Douglas, who both had eight a piece) on a limited number of snaps. Assuming he has shaken off some rust and his workload resumes its regular volume, Wright should roll against Jacksonville’s flimsy secondary.
Marcus Mariota needs more weapons. His backfield lacks speed and burst and his downfield options are raw and stone handed. Outside of Walker, Wright exists as the young QB’s most capable chain mover. Facing a Jags squad that gave up scores to both Stevie Johnson and Dontrelle Inman last Sunday, the speedy slot receiver should be looked to often. Available in over 50 percent of Yahoo leagues, Wright is a real life No. 1 receiver who should produce WR3 fantasy stats in Week 13.

DeVante Parker, WR, Miami Dolphins ($13)
Parker was one of this spring’s buzziest rookie names. Unfortunately an unexpected foot surgery marred the start to his season, causing him to miss valuable time and placing him far down on the depth chart. But an injury to fellow wideout Rishard Matthews has changed that. After a set of broken ribs forced Matthews out of Week 12, Parker stepped in and was targeted a season-high ten times. He converted on four of those looks for 80 yards and a score.
The question marks surrounding Miami’s offense certainly abound. It’s assumed that newly appointed OC Zac Taylor will focus on the run, but Parker’s upside in tandem with a matchup against the Ravens struggling CBs has me betting on the youngster. Furthermore, Matthews, whom Parker is presumably replacing in the lineup, was Ryan Tannehill’s second most looked to option in the passing game. Noting Parker’s superior size, sure hands, and ability to high point the ball, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was among Week 14’s hottest waiver wire adds.
Shaun Draughn, RB, San Francisco 49ers ($11)
Since replacing Carlos Hyde, Draughn has touched the ball exactly 20 times in each of his starts as the 49ers’ new workhorse. Averaging over 86 total yards per contest, Draughn has been a top-thirty fantasy option since Week 9. While his YPC has underwhelmed at just 3.5, it is worth noting that his last two outings were opposite the fourth (Arizona) and fifth (Seattle) best run defenses in the league.

Heading into Week 13, he’ll see a Bears defense that has allowed an average of 147 rushing yards over their last three games. On the field for over 90 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in back-to-back weeks, Draughn has been the most utilized RB in pass-catching situations through Weeks 11 and 12. In that time he has secured 13 of 16 targets, which is more than either LeSean McCoy or Giovani Bernard. Noting that Eddie Lacy rumbled his way to 105 rushing yards and scored via the air against Chicago on Thanksgiving, Draughn is an incredible value at just $11 in DFS.

Vance McDonald, TE, San Francisco 49ers ($10)
Since starting under center in Week 9, Blaine Gabbert has thrown 4 TDs… all of them to the tight end position. In Week 12, McDonald was second in team targets behind Anquan Boldin (who’s another sneaky play this week). The formidably sized pass-catcher converted six of seven balls for 71 yards and a score. Finding the end zone in back-to-back outings, McDonald has been a top-five fantasy option for consecutive weeks.
Adding to McDonald’s appeal is the fact that fellow TE Garrett Celek will miss Week 13 with an ankle injury. This, of course, limits Gabbert’s options and should keep McDonald producing in the end zone. Admittedly the matchup isn’t cake, as the Bears have been fairly stout against the TE position. However, Chicago’s secondary is young and capable of committing just enough errors to keep McDonald on the TE1 radar.
