Well, the market for running backs isn't dead.
The New Orleans Saints, who are in the worst situation relative to the salary cap in the NFL, re-signed Mark Ingram. According to multiple reports, the deal is for four years and $16 million.
Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, who can become a free agent when free agency opens on Tuesday, will be studying that deal closely.

The Saints were about $16 million over the cap, according to OverTheCap.com, and will have to find a way to get under the cap by the time the new league year starts on Tuesday.

For a while it looked like Ingram, a former Heisman Trophy winner, would be a first-round disappointment for the Saints. But after showing a few good signs in 2013 on 78 carries, Ingram became a reliable workhorse in his contract year last season. He had 964 yards and nine touchdowns on 226 carries last season, his fourth in the NFL. He was named to the Pro Bowl.

The Saints have severe cap issues, but they still wanted to retain Ingram instead of going cheap at running back. That should be a positive sign to the other backs about to hit free agency.
