KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hopefully, what the fan in this video did by jumping into the left-field fountains at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night doesn't start a trend. The fan, wearing an authentic Kansas City Royals throwback Larry Gura jersey circa 1980, took a 10-foot leap into the water after Steve Pearce of the Baltimore Orioles made the final out of Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.
It follows that the fan was full of joy because the Royals had won 2-1 to get within one victory of their franchise's first World Series since 1985. But, as a Royals fan on Twitter said:

@BHIndepMO if that video would have went another 20 seconds i'm sure we'd have seen her in handcuffs.

It's tough to say definitively what gender the fan was. Long hair, baggy jersey, iffy video quality. Attempts were made to find out the person's identity through the Kansas City Police and ballpark security, but answers were not immediate.
Jumping into a fountain might not seem like something a female fan would do, but it would be sexist to say that.*Back in 2013, a fan named Jessica McCoy lost her job after she jumped a railing and waded into the fountains in left field:

Reportedly, Jessica McCoy is coming to Game 4 on Wednesday afternoon. Will there be a ceremony, or a torch passing? We'll find out.
The fan from Tuesday didn't just wade and splash around, he or she made a heck of a (dangerous, stupid) leap from the falls into the tubs, which have sharp metal objects pointing up from the bottom, perhaps put there to discourage fans from jumping into them. But, getting back to Greg the Royals fan's point, there's also this from the Royals website:
*
Fountains: If at any time a fan enters a fountain, they will be immediately arrested, transported to the police station downtown and charged to the fullest extent of the law.
The Kauffman fountains are among the most iconic landmarks in Major League Baseball. They're to be enjoyed with the eyes, ears and perhaps nose. They're not for bathing.
So was it worth it? Probably not, and probably not in light of the Royals wanting to prevent it from happening again. Be smarter out there people. Great jersey, though. Here's a picture of the real Larry Gura:
