Hey, remember Jacob Markstrom?
The goalie who couldn’t break through in Florida, was traded to Vancouver in the Roberto Luongo deal and then couldn’t break through with the Canucks, eventually getting dropped through waivers to the AHL?
Well, he made 66 saves in the sixth-longest game in American Hockey League history on Thursday night.
Alas, it was in a losing effort – Utica lost 2-1 at home to the Oklahoma City Barons in quadruple overtime, as Curtis Hamilton scored just 16 seconds into the fourth OT period to give the Edmonton Oilers affiliate the victory in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series.*

Goalie Richard Bachman had 56 saves in the win.
From NewsOK.com:
A crowd of 3,835 at Utica Memorial Auditorium saw the hometown Comets fail to clear the puck from their own zone. Hamilton recovered the loose puck and whipped around and fired a game-winning shot on goaltender Jacob Markstrom.
The Barons mobbed Hamilton after he ended the sixth-longest game in AHL history. Oklahoma City has won a league-record 17 games in overtime this season, including the last three playoff games. The Barons are 4-0 in the playoffs, the only team in the Calder Cup field with a perfect record.*
The teams combined for 124 shots, including 67 by Oklahoma City.
The 60:16 of overtime surpassed a 1939 game between Cleveland and Providence for sixth-longest of all time, regular season or postseason. The longest AHL game ever remains the 2008 classic between Philadelphia and Albany: 82:58 of overtime.
Ah, but no rest for the weary: Utica and OKC play Game 2 of their series on Friday night. Back-to-back games, after going four overtimes. Fun!
