Derek Jeter was the main attraction at the MLB All-Star game Tuesday night at Target Field in Minnesota, and his performance proved he deserved such status. But on Twitter, another Jeter became the talk of the 140-character world — Michael Jeter.
You're probably thinking, "Huh? Michael Jeter? Is that one of Derek's relatives?"
The real Michael Jeter is an actor who died in 2003. His credits included "Sesame Street," "The Green Mile" and "Jurassic Park III." But if you looked at Michael Jeter's wikipedia page in the late innings of the All-Star game, you found this new addition:
His most notable appearance on national television was when he started at shortstop in the 2014 MLB All-Star Game. Jeter went 2-2 with a double and a single. CBS News was first to break this information.
Yep, CBS News goofed and sent out a tweet about Michael Jeter when it meant Derek. Sort of like when TBS introduced us to Carl Ripken Jr. CBS News deleted the tweet and sent out a "whoops" shortly after.

Hey, we all make mistakes, even right here on this blog. But what set this apart was how the Internet scooped up Michael Jeter and adopted him as the meme of the night. It was the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter worldwide. A @MichaelJeterNY Twitter account debuted. And the Photostops started to roll in:

Even MLB jumped in to make a joke:

You know the life span of these things. Michael Jeter will only be funny for one night. But much like Derek Jeter's final All-Star game, it was a good night.
