The New York Mets may have just finished a series in Colorado, but it looks like they brought the thin air with them. The club exploded for a franchise record eight home runs in a blowout win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.

Returning third baseman David Wright led the charge, hitting his first home run since April 10 in the second inning. His return, as well as his big blast, must have inspired his teammates to get in on the act.*
Juan Lagares would join Wright the following inning, hitting a solo home run of his own. In the fourth, both Wilmer Flores and Travis d'Arnaud joined the club.
But, wait, the Mets weren't done just yet. Flores struck again in the fifth inning, and Michael Cuddyer followed that up with a blast of his own. Daniel Murphy would add a home run in the sixth, but then the Mets would go into a rare lull.
In the seventh and eighth inning, the team did not hit any home runs. Though victory seemed assured at that point, things were starting to look bleak for the team's hitters.*
Up to that point, six different Mets players went yard. It was telling, however, that the most obvious candidate to join the club had yet contribute his own blast.
Mets have 7 HRs tonight and none by Cespedes @cantpredictball

That wouldn't last. Cespedes was the one to break the team's record, smashing a two-run shot in the top of the ninth inning.
Not surprisingly, the club also set a record for extra-base hits during the contest, with 15. On top of the eight home runs, the club added seven doubles.
The team's much maligned offense actually leads the majors in home runs since July 25 after ranking dead last prior to that date, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
All in all, not bad. The Mets have been on an absolute tear since the All-Star break. While pitching has been their calling card all season, the club's offense has really carried them lately.*It couldn't come at a better time, as the team has decided to give Matt Harvey extra rest, and has considered doing the same with rookie Noah Syndergaard.

After experiencing an offensive breakout in Colorado, the Mets bats suddenly can't be stopped. With the final month of the regular season quickly approaching, it appears the Mets are firing on all cylinders.*
