It's little solace to the losers, but two Denver Broncos will find themselves in the Super Bowl record books.
Peyton Manning's 34 completions and DeMaryius Thomas' 13 catches in Super Bowl XLVIII both set individual records in the 43-8 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Both of the marks were bolstered with the Seahawks up big, as the Broncos didn't score until the Seahawks were leading 36-0.
Manning had 17 completions in the first half but for only 104 yards, and with two interceptions. He finished 34-of-49 passing for 280 yards, with one touchdown to go along with the two picks.
Thomas caught seven first-half passes but for only 47 yards, with a long grab of 19 yards. He finished with 13 catches for 118 and the TD pass from Manning. But Thomas also lost a fumble midway through the third quarter with the Broncos trailing 29-0 but driving close to the Seahawks' red zone.
The previous record for completions was 32, held by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in Super Bowl XXXVIII against the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees against Manning's Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Both Brady and Brees won those games.
The prior record for catches in a Super Bowl was 11, shared by four players: Cincinnati Bengals' Dan Ross vs. San Francisco, XVI; San Francisco 49ers' Jerry Rice, San Francisco vs. Cincinnati, XXIII; Patriots' Deion Branch vs. Philadelphia Eagles, XXXIX; and Patriots' Wes Welker vs. N.Y. Giants, XLII. Both Ross and Welker lost their games, but Rice and Branch each won the Super Bowl and took home the game MVP awards in their respective victories.
