What we know about the Las Vegas NHL team: That apparently its nickname will include the word “Knights.”
What we don’t know: What will be the word in front of it.
According to Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Journal, the name will be announced formally in mid-October, potentially at a ceremony with owner Bill Foley and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. From Carp:
Everything is a go after months of deliberation, going through legal hoops to secure the trademarks, copyrights and domain names and that the team will be called either the Silver Knights, the Desert Knights or the Golden Knights. “The name is definitely set,” Foley said Monday from California. “But I can’t tell you exactly what it is. That’s a secret.
Now, these are all names we’ve covered before. But a tweet by journalist Bill Shea about the name “Desert Knights” being federally trademarked led to a breathless report by TSN that repeated that news in a headline, before SB Nation’s Travis Hughes brought everyone back down to earth by reiterating that it was one of three names have been trademarked by the Vegas team:

Again, this is old news that has cycled back into a new news cycle. But it does bring up two questions:
1 – Is there a “Knights” name variation we haven’t seen yet that might end up being the name? Because how can we trust a man who has already admitted to flooding the zone with fake names?

2- Does it matter? Desert, Silver, Golden, Black, Dark, Boogie, British … everyone’s going to call them the “Knights” or “Vegas” anyway.
