The Washington Redskins were about to take a two-score lead at halftime on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles when Kirk Cousins lost his mind.
Leading 16-10, the Redskins had the ball at the Philly 6-yard line after a dumb Eagles delay of game penalty. Once the clock started, the Redskins appeared set to stop the clock and kick a field goal.
But ... Redskins.
Cousins, who has been discussed for receiving a contract commensurate with franchise quarterbacks un the offseason, took a knee instead of grounding the ball. The Redskins had no timeouts left.
Oh boy.
The referees gathered and sorted out the mess. Cousins had given himself and the half was over, bailing out Walter Thurmond, who was guilty of the penalty a play earlier.
So what happened?
"I don't know why Kirk took a knee," Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said to NFL Network at the half. "We'll have to find out at halftime."
We can't wait to hear his reasoning.
