The Tampa Bay Lightning could trade young forward Jonathan Drouin within the next day. ***
According to a report from TVA’s Renaud Lavoie, Drouin could be traded within the next 24 hours. The report – which is in French – lists the St. Louis Blues as the likeliest landing spot for Drouin. The young forward had requested a trade in November, but the news was made public by his agent, Allan Walsh in early January.
The day before the request was announced, Drouin was sent to Tampa’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch.*
Drouin has eight points in 19 games with the Lightning this year, but has been slowed by injuries. Last season he had four goals and 32 points in 70 games. He had 0 points in six games during Tampa’s run to the 2015 Stanley Cup Final.*
The Lightning selected Drouin with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft after he had 105 points in 49 games with the Halifax Mooseheads in 2012-13, playing with No. 1 overall pick Nathan MacKinnon.
In a recent story, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun listed the Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens, along with the Blues, as teams that could be interested in Drouin.*
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman recently wrote about Drouin and mentioned Blues forward Robby Fabbri as a name that is “out there.” He also wrote the Ducks, with their deep prospect pool at forward and defense, were a good fit for Drouin. ***
